Worship is the center of Sunday Activities. We also have Sunday School, Youth, Music Makers, Children’s activities, handbell rehearsals, and Bible studies. We sing, speak, proclaim, pray, and gather as a community worshipping God and all that God has done and continues doing in our lives. We know that people worship in a variety of ways and styles, and so we offer two services each Sunday for worship. Between the two services we also offer Sunday School for all ages. All are welcome to join us for an authentic worship of God! **NOTE:** *During the Summer (June-August) we combine services and meet at 10:30am for worship and 9:30am for Sunday School.* We believe the Holy Scriptures (The Bible, both Old and New Testaments) reveal the Word of God to us so far as it is necessary for our salvation. We believe that reading and studying Scripture together is a means of grace God has given us to grow closer to one another and to God. Scripture is a central aspect of our worship on Sunday Mornings. As United Methodists, our Wesleyan theological heritage points to an emphasis on practical divinity. That is, the implementation of genuine Christianity in the lives of believers. We believe, with John Wesley, that the living core of the Christian faith is revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason. There is also an emphasis on grace – God’s unmerited favor towards us. The United Methodist Book of Discipline, which is statement of how United Methodists agree to live their lives together, provides information and explanation on our basic Christian beliefs. Following is a summary of our emphases, again taken from The United Methodist *Book of Discipline.* Prevenient Grace literally means "the grace that comes before." Prevenient grace calls us into a relationship with God before we are even aware of God. It prepares us for the dawning awareness that God loves us so much that God seeks us out first. As United Methodists, we believe that God’s love surrounds all humanity and precedes all our conscious impulses. We call this action of God "Prevenient" or sometimes "Preceding" Grace - as it is only through God's grace that we come to faith to begin with. We believe God reaches out to the repentant believer in Justifying Grace with accepting and pardoning love. Justification is what happens when Christians abandon all those vain attempts to justify themselves before God, to be seen as “just” in God’s eyes through religious and moral practices. When God’s “justifying grace” is experienced and accepted, it’s a time of pardon and forgiveness, of new peace, joy and love. We believe that the wonder of God’s acceptance and pardon does not end God’s saving work, which continues to nurture our growth in grace. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Sanctifying Grace enables us to grow into the image of Christ and leads to inward and outward holiness - that is, we are enabled to increase in the knowledge and love of God and in love for our neighbor. We see God’s grace and human activity working together in the relationship of faith and good works. God’s grace calls forth human response and discipline. Faith is the only response essential for salvation, but salvation evidences itself in good works. As part of the good works mentioned above, we insist that personal salvation always involves Christian mission and service to the world. Love of God is always linked with love of neighbor, a passion for justice and renewal in the life of the world. We emphasize the nurturing and serving function of Christian fellowship in the Church. The personal experience of faith is nourished by the worshiping community. The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Local churches and extension ministries of the Church provide the most significant arenas through which disciple-making occurs. This mission is our grace-filled response to the Reign of God in the world announced by Jesus. God's grace is active everywhere, at all times, carrying out this purpose as revealed in the Bible. It is *expressed* in God's covenant with Abraham and Sarah, in the Exodus of Israel from Egypt, and in the ministry of the prophets. It is fully *embodied* in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is *experienced* in the ongoing creation of a new people by the Holy Spirit. As United Methodists, we believe in and practice two sacraments - Holy Communion and Holy Baptism. We uphold these two practices as Sacraments because they were explicitly ordained by Jesus during his time on earth for the Church to practice. We believe that through Holy Baptism, we are initiated into Christ's holy Church and incorporated into God's mighty acts of salvation. All this is God's gift to us without price, and Holy Baptism serves as an outward sign of inward repentance and inner cleansing from sin, a representation of the new birth in Christ Jesus - a mark of Christian discipleship. As United Methodists, we believe children are beloved by God and also included in Christ's Church, and so we do not prohibit children or infants from being baptized - with hopes that they will grow in faith and return at Confirmation to profess their faith for themselves, confirming their Baptism. We also do not administer Baptism to any person who has already been baptized - for while our promises to God may be less than always reliable, God's promise to us in the sacrament is steadfast. We believe that Holy Communion (also called the Lord's Supper or the Eucharist) is a representation of our redemption, a memorial of the sufferings and death of Christ, and a token of love and union which Christians have with Christ and with one another. Those who rightly, worthily and in faith eat the broken bread and drink the blessed cup partake of the body and blood of Christ in a spiritual manner until he returns. We also believe there are other means which God has given us to seek out God's grace for ourselves. We call these other personal and communal practices "Means of Grace". There is no set list of Means of Grace, but it can include any number of works of mercy or piety - such as reading, meditating and studying the scriptures, prayer, fasting, regularly attending worship, healthy living, sharing our faith with others, doing good works, visiting the sick, visiting those in prison, feeding the hungry, and giving generously to the needs of others, seeking justice, ending oppression and discrimination, and addressing the needs of the poor. Check out some of the Ministry Groups available below: The heart of Children's Ministry at our church is to teach kids about who God is and how His word applies to their lives in creative and memorable ways. Through engaging teaching, supportive environments, and close knit small group classes, we guide kids towards a better understanding of what it means to have a real relationship with God. We want kids to know that the Bible is full of interesting stories that matter in their lives today, that fun and games are definitely allowed at church, that worship can be full of loud music and silly dancing, and that there are adults in the church who truly want to love and lead them closer to Jesus. In other words, we want them to know that where God is, life is a lot more fun! Music and the Arts are a vital part of the Worship experience at First UMC Mocksville.  The Music Department of First UMC is comprised of the Chancel Choir, Children's Choirs, Choir Chimes and Handbell Choirs. They're bold. And they're bursting with potential. We truly believe that the middle and high school students in our midst are world changers in the making. We work hard to create environments that engage students in good conversation about and with God, encouraging them to ask big questions, search out answers, and lean into mystery together. We have plenty of engaging events and gatherings designed to build the faith and community of our adults as well. Young or old, Christian or not, single or married, man or woman—we've got a place for you! **United Women in Faith** is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.  We work to meet the needs of women, children, and youth around the world.  First UMC has a local unit of UWF with two circles. The Hannah circle meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00; the evening circle meets the third Tuesday of each month. There are no meetings June-August. We support community and church missions with our financial gifts, time, and service. All are welcome to join.  Contact Ruth Hoyle for more information. rhoyle@yadtel.net **The United Methodist Men** meet the 2nd Sunday of each month at 7:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall for breakfast and fellowship. MAIN STREET | MOCKSVILLE, NC 27028 | OFFICE 336.751.2503 | PRESCHOOL 336.753.1900** **OFFICE HOURS: Monday & Wednesday 9 AM - 5 PM | Tuesday & Thursday 9 AM - 12:00 PM | Fridays CLOSED** ***believe*** *in Jesus Christ as Lord, to* ***receive*** *the power of the Holy Spirit* *and to* ***respond*** *to the needs of others with the love of God the Father.* **First United Methodist Childcare Ministries has several different options for children in our church and our community.** FUMC Preschool Ministry offers classes for children ages 2, 3 and 4 years old. We offer Weekday Preschool from 9am-12pm and have classes that meet various days during the week based on the specific class. We open our registration to our current students in February, and then following that, we open our registration to the community. If you think you may be interested in enrolling your child in our programs, we advise calling as soon as possible to get on our wait list.   2-Year-Olds: 2 day option (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday) or 4 days (Monday-Thursday) 3-Year-Olds: 3 day option (Tuesday-Thursday) or 4 day option (Monday-Thursday Fun facts about the preschool: First UMC began offering weekday education to children in the community in the 1960s by providing a weekday Kindergarten class. When the state started their own Kindergarten program, First Methodist Church began the Weekday Preschool. When the preschool started, there was 18 children in one class. During the 1980s, 30 students attended two separate classes, and the preschool now serves over 60 children in the church and community. **Preschool Summer Camp: A 10-week program from 9am-1pm** Monday-Thursday for 2-year-olds through rising Kindergartners. This program focuses on fun summer activities with weekly themes that tie into easy to understand Bible verses and stories. This camp begins in June and ends in mid-August. We are a congregation steeped in rich history, looking toward the future with faith. Here, you can find out more about who we are, including available Sunday services, location information, and a bit of our history - but the best way is to come visit us for worship on Sunday! Join us at **8:45am** on Sunday Mornings for our early worship service in the Family Life Center! This service features a more relaxed and casual atmosphere with contemporary music. Join us at **10:55am** on Sunday Mornings for our Traditional Service!! This service features more traditional liturgy and hymns in our historic Sanctuary. We have a number of adult, youth, and children's Sunday School opportunities for all ages across our campus at **9:45am** each Sunday morning, between the two services! **NOTE: *During the Summer (June-August) we come together for one combined Worship Service at 10:30am, with Sunday School at 9:30am.*** Sunday Mornings aren't the only time to be active at First UMC! Check out some of the other things we have going on below: Each Monday night, we hold community prayer in the green space next to the Family Life Center. Join us for a time of reflection, petition, and community as we pray for our town, our county, our country, and our world together. Youth are vital members of the Body of Christ, and are an important ministry at First UMC! Join Pastor Stephen and friends at 4pm on Sundays for a time of Fellowship, Study, and Fun! We are split by N Main, with the offices and Family Life Center being located just across from the Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, and Preschool. At FUMC, our Youth Ministry is the group for all 6th-12th graders to grow in love of God and one another! John 13:34-35 tells us of Jesus' call to love one another, reminding us that we will be known as Christians by our love! Join us for Sunday Night Youth as we learn what it means to care for one another in Christian love, and practice outreach to our neighbors! 1 Peter 4:10-11 tells us that we should use what we have to help others through service. Come to Sunday Night Youth to learn more about what serving others looks like, and practice the work of loving and serving others! Romans 15:4 reminds us that the study of Scripture can encourage us and bring us hope. Part of being a disciple is learning more about God and our relationship to him! Join us at Sunday Night Youth to learn more about God, ask big questions, and understand what it means to be a United Methodist and a follower of Christ. Psalm 150:6 reminds us of the power and importance of worshipping God.
