Sewing Seeds Established in the summer of 2006 the “Sewing Seeds” Youth Ministry developed from a desire of our youth to help with the church’s quilt ministry (Prayers & Squares). As these young people (age 11+) learn to sew they are making items they can share with others as part of their mission to plant the seeds of God’s love. During the school season they meet the 1st Saturday of each month in the Fellowship Hall from 9am - noon.
An ongoing project for the "Sewing Seeds" Youth Ministry and one that is fast becoming their trademark is pocket size "Prayer Squares". Each little square ( 2 - 3 inches) is tacked in the middle with a heavy thread...the knot represents a prayer for comfort and strength. Our fellow church members share their stories of how they are using the little prayer squares.
One gentleman told us he carries his at all times in his pocket, one lady says she wears hers as a broche and another tells of tucking one inside a letter to a sick loved one. We've tied the knot and said a prayer...God knows the need.
As one of our youth described the little square "it's like having a miniature prayer quilt you can carry with you everywhere you go". Thank you for helping us plant the seeds of God's love! "Pocket prayers" are available on the table in the narthex and the Family Life Center.
Currently the "Sewing Seeds" are making brightly colored pillowcases to help cheer the children at Brenners Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. |
